The plan of the big prose about Chernobyl accident has appeared still in 1990 when almost daily two-year-old struggle for our film the "Threshold" (director Rollan Sergienko), which has destroyed the "iron curtain" of the hushing up the consequences of this disaster, has ended. Although the film started in 1988 from an easy hand of known film director Mykola Mashchenko, who was then the director of a film studio by A.Dovzhenko, has been made in incredibly short term – only during half-year. Then all that I have gone through, saw and heard – all four-year-old experience after Chernobyl, which already couldn't to hold only in poetic lines, started to be poured on a pages of the future whether the novel, whether a story – "Pripyat syndrome". And just then Nikolay Pavlovich, who probably psychically felt this process, has suggested to me to write the script about Chernobyl tragedy and himself has denominated it – "How to rescue you, son". And as in those hard years of perestroika the film studio experienced going to more and more deeper financial crisis, work on the future film (first two-part, then one-serial) so and has stopped at a level of the script. But this work has affected stylistics of the story which I present to your attention, dear Reader! (Lyubov Sirota) This story is devoted to my fellow countrymen – former inhabitants of Pripyat and to all, whose destiny the ominous shadow of Chernobyl catastrophe has touched. And though the real events have lain in a basis of it, the story is not documentary, as all its heroes – images collective … PROLOGUE … In the dense violet sky the far asterisk pulses. She increases, turning in a bright shaggy star, then in a huge multi-colour sphere which approach – closer and closer, leaving a long radiant trace in the sky… There are the dazzle flash suddenly… All sky is engaged in a red-yellow glow shivering from own heat which has escaped, appears, from the opened mouth of a reactor destroyed by the explosion … And still hot, red-is-red, is the enormous pipe of the second-order ChAES*… … Irina sharply wakes up. The crisis, already becoming habitual, especially for last two years, has excruciated head by the intolerable pain and filled each cell of a body by a heated lead... Ah, as it inopportunely! In fact she, at last, has solved to take away the son from sanatorium, but before it she should make still so a lot... By a disobedient hand she gropes a medicine on a bedside-table in a headboard. Takes out from packing one anesthetizing tablet, chews it.
